Video Project

Project Description:

During this project we learned how to creatively make a video with certain programs and tools. At the beginning of this project we had mini lessons and projects, we learned the basics of how to create a video in adobe flash and movie maker. We also had helpful lectures about lighting and placement, which would have to be incorporated into our video. For a mini project we created short stop motion videos to learn how to add music and other effects to our videos. Although we had a short amount of time to complete this project the end products turned out very well.

Some of the things I have learned from this project...

1. Techniques throughout artwork can be classified is new or old, most traditional artwork uses older techniques while also incorporating new ones. Art mediums have a wide variety old and new, much new art has become digital.

2. Art is all around us and we use it in everyday life without even knowing it. Art is found everywhere from advertisements we see outside to the labels on product in our house. An artist has visually designed almost everything we see and use.

3. All artists have to use preliminary plans whether it is a sketch or just idea in their head. Without planning there is no structure to the final product, almost all artwork has been planned. However some artists plan much more than others, some artwork does not come out as it was originally planned.

4. Understanding new media helps understand material culture, which influences artist’s decisions. All artist want to work with and have insight on the world around them to create artwork that will help and work with what they see.

5. What problem-solving skills are employed in making works of art? Problem solving skills are crucial when creating art, almost everyone runs into problems while making art. Learning how to fix and work with you mistakes is very helpful throughout all mediums of art.

Political Cartoon Project-

(BlackFish Documentary Trailer Link)

Reflection:
After watching the documentary “Blackfish” we created political cartoons reflecting our views of the issue. My political cartoon is easy to understand illustration that gets the message across. It simply explains how orca whales were involuntarily taken from their habitat only for our amusement and business. This political cartoon uses a simple idea that is not thoroughly throughout by most people and shown through simple images that work together to make this drawing appealing to the eye while directly sending the message across. It makes a conclusive point of the wrongs sea world has done with their animals rather than the rights. Also using straightforward  powerful words that the viewers attention it brought upon by the illustration.
Information can easily be shared artistically through many different forms of art, almost every artists is trying to get a message across the their viewers. Political cartooning is one of the easiest ways to do this. By taking a fact or opinion and expressing it through a drawing or illustration, using aspects of political cartooning the message is easily understood by the viewer. When you are viewing a piece of artwork there is usually a main focus point your eyes are immediately drawn to. As your eyes move throughout the artwork, it affects your feelings towards the work and searchers for the message that the artist is trying to get across. When specifically referring to political cartooning the text in the illustration should help draw attention to it without overpowering the intended message. When you are creating art the main goal is to direct the viewer attention to the message that you are trying to get across. In political cartooning it is important to be straightforward without letting the viewer get caught up in misleading details. Creating art is much different viewing art because artists who are creating art use different techniques to express their message while, people who are viewing are searching for those messages.

Pre Historic Art Drawings

Reflection:
We started this project by watching the video “Man Created Dog” throughout the video we were looking back at the history of the wolf and how man domesticated it. We also looked at the shape and posture of the animal so we could soon learn how to realistically draw it .During the video we were given how to draw worksheets showing us how to draw wolves in different styles, some were easier and others were more challenging. After that we were given a variety of other drawing examples, not only wolves but other animals and nature drawings, we were able to copy some of them in our sketch book. Later we moved out of our sketch books on to drawing paper to create a final drawing, we took this drawing and used the image trace tool to make it something a computer could easily recognize. We put different effects on our image to change different parts of it and overall how the viewer sees it. During this project the how to draw worksheets were very helpful, however it was faster and easier for me to work off of the final drawing. Experimenting with different drawing mediums was also very helpful for me. The image trace tool made my drawing much darker and added different effects to it. However it was difficult because there were some fine lines and shading in my drawing which didn't show up very well in the final outcome. This technique will help me if I need to electronically edit or enhance drawings in the future.

Self-Portrait Project

Artist Statement, Self Reflection:
This self-portrait shows the style of art that I have been interested in throughout this past semester. We were given a lot of freedom throughout this last project which helped me express myself in different ways. Even though this project took up a lot of my time I am very proud or the final product.
